The ongoing internal refurbishment of Bulstrode House in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, has involved the expertise and manufacturing capability of Arkoni Metalwork.

The historic house, which dates back to 1865, sits within landscaped grounds that were once the home of the infamous Judge Jeffreys, known as the ‘Hanging Judge’ who served as Lord Chancellor under King James II in the 17th Century.

Now owned by Christian organisation WEC International, the house boasts a rich history involving many of the nation’s most prominent aristocrats and was used by the WAAF (Womens Air Auxiliary Force) during World War 2 as their training headquarters.
Arkoni manufactured and installed a number of E30 fire-rated glazed screens and doors throughout the building.

Andy Pool, a member of WEC’s Bulstrode building maintenance staff commented: “The new fire screens are part of an internal refurbishment and updating of the building.
“Existing screens and timber frames dated back to the 1980s and were looking very dated as well as not conforming to the very latest fire regulations,” added Andy.

Arkoni MD Mark Prentice commented: “The E30 glazing offers protection against fire for 30 minutes. As a result the building is split up into self-contained sections that will prevent the spread of fire.

“There were issues that had to be encountered such as the shapes of the door frames but we overcame the issue by manufacturing bespoke steel sections in our Brighouse workshops as well as cutting the glazing panels to specific sizes.

“It’s a beautiful building that is brimming with history and we’re delighted to have played a small part in protecting it for years to come,” added Mark.
