Arkoni has recently manufactured and installed a new Library Resource Unit at the iconic Department of Work & Pensions' Quarry House HQ, close to Leeds City Centre.

The project, carried out under the auspices of Leeds-based architects Stephen George & Partners and on behalf of contractors IMS of Bradford, has already received recognition in the form of a 'Highly Commended' in the 2014 Constructing Excellence Awards 2014.

Arkoni designed, manufactured and installed a lightweight steel structure, along with planar glazing and glass doors.

Arkoni MD Mark Prentice commented: "We worked closely with U-Roof in the design of the steel framing system. The ultimate flexibility of this lightweight steel construction system meant that the whole project took on a 'meccano style' feel with the planar glazing slotting in perfectly.

"The installation involved the Arkoni team of fitters working nights to minimise the disruption to Quarry House's offices that operate in normal working hours.

"All of the materials had to be transported by hand due to access restrictions and were then assembled into place within the building.

"The whole design had to be both lightweight and in kit form and the finished job, already being well used and received by Department of Health staff, really does make an impact," added Mark.

Martin Ellison, MD of IMS Bradford who worked closely with Arkoni on the contract management of the project, commented: "The end result is a very eye-catching addition to the resources available at Quarry House with much of the credit belonging to Arkoni for their flexibility and project management as well as the look and durability of their glazing and frame system.

"The whole design and construction team worked in close collaboration throughout and it's a project that all parties can be immensely proud of. I'm sure that the Constructing Excellence Awards recognition will be the first of many plaudits to come its way," added Martin
